Architectural photography was never designed for infinite scroll, vertical crops, or algorithm-driven feeds. Yet today, some of the most thoughtful and expensive design work is reduced to interchangeable images that disappear in seconds.

This session examines how the scroll economy has quietly reshaped architectural photography in the AEC industry, often flattening brand identity, diminishing storytelling, and rewarding sameness over substance. Rather than chasing trends or sacrificing design integrity, this talk reframes photography as a system that can be intentionally designed to work within social platforms while still reinforcing architectural brand value.

Attendees will learn how to plan photography with social performance in mind, how to brief photographers for brand consistency and versatility, and how to move beyond the hero shot toward image systems that create recognition, relevance, and long-term impact.

This presentation is built for AEC marketing teams who want photography that does more than look good. It is for those who want images that slow the scroll, strengthen the brand, and actually work.

BIO: A little about me: I’m a co-founder of an AEC media production company called 517 Visuals. Together with my wife Amber, we started our company to help the built-environment industry create compelling and useful visuals.

My background: In 2001, I graduated from Art School with a focus on Advertising Design. I wanted to become a Graphic Artist, and actually spent more than a decade working in various artsy marketing roles. Back then, I specialized in corporate branding and logo design.

In 2013, I quit my dream job as a Creative Director. Amber had started our photography business the year before, and it was quite a thrill to join her. Over the years, we've shot every kind of business you can imagine, plus more hotels than we can count. It was early in 2020 (when the pandemic shut down all our hotels) that we began creating visuals for the AEC industry. Fast forward 6 years later and that’s the entire focus of our business. It's been quite a journey.
